BUFFALO, NY – A day after defeating the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure in convincing fashion, the Bulls returned home to the Alumni Arena Natatorium against Cleveland State. On Senior Day where six individuals were recognized for their contributions throughout their time at UB, the Bulls got off to a fast start by winning the meet's first five events. The women's swimming and diving team came away with a 22-568 victory, while the men's swimming and diving team won 209-89 over the Vikings.
Senior Derek Linebaugh won both diving events by scoring a season-best time of 369.98 in the three-meter dive and earned a mark of 324.08 in the one-meter dive.
Holly Olsen helped propel the Bulls relay team along with Mallory Buha, Julia Box, and Megan Burns to victory in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.93. Burns went on to win the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 23.30 and and the 200 yard freestyle relay where she swam anchor. The relay team won the event with a time of 1:36.00.
Senior Billy Patrum finished second in three events (400 yard IM, 500 yard freestyle, and the 200 yard butterfly) in his final dual meet as a Bull. Antonio Lanzi swam the opening leg of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay in 20.90 seconds to propel the Bulls to a time of 1:23.03. He also finished second in the 200 yard and 100 yard freestyle.
Jessica Powers finished second in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:32.69 before swimming the 500 yard freestyle in 5:10.47 to a third-place finish. Fellow senior Alexis Valedon finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard backstroke.
Saturday's meet was their final dual meet of the year.UB's focus now turns to the MAC Championships. The women's swimming and diving MAC Championships will be held at Bowling Green from Wednesday, February 24 through Saturday, February 27, while the men's swimming and diving MAC Championships are hosted by Eastern Michigan from March 2-5.
