Bell Promoted to Full-Time Assistant Coach

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo track and field head coach Vicki Mitchell has announced the promotion of Tomarris Bell to full-time assistant coach. Bell, who previously served as a part-time assistant since 2014, will now oversee UB's combined events, horizontal jumps and vertical jumps.

"I am excited to bring Coach Bell to our program as a full-time assistant coach," Mitchell said. "He brings not only event knowledge, but a passion for coaching and helping our student-athletes excel to the highest level."

During Bell's time as a part-time coach at Buffalo overseeing the horizontal jumps, the Bulls saw strong gains.  This past year under Bell's guidance, Kaishaun Cathey broke the men's indoor triple jump school record previously set in 2001 by former MAC Champion Kamua Halim.  Cathey's mark of 51'10.5" (15/81m) ranked him 20th in the NCAA.  The women also excelled with Mikayla Pearce setting a personal best mark in the long jump of 19'11.5" and advancing to the NCAA East Preliminary Round.  Crystal Henderson and Kailyn Arcury also set personal best marks in the horizontal jumps with Henderson earning a spot on the Mid-American Conference podium.

Bell had an illustrious career as a student-athlete at the University at Buffalo.  While competing for the Bulls, he was a multiple time scorer at the MAC Championships in the high jump (6'9.5"), long jump (24'1) and triple jump (48'8.75") plus the 4 x 100m relay.  Bell also played a critical role on the 2013 UB Football Team, helping the Bulls earn their second-ever bowl game appearance.
